Dr Max Kozachenko is a Marine Geologist who joined CMRC in 2000. During his career he took part in various mapping projects in both marine and terrestrial environments having worked from the Mediterranean to the North Pole with primary focus on Irish environments: e.g. mapping Irish deep-water coral reefs, seabed habitats of the Irish and Celtic Seas. He is familiar with a wide range of survey equipment and specialized data processing software with extensive experience in survey planning, data acquisition, processing, interpretation, integration within Geographical Information System (GIS) and production of the final mapping products.
Max is also a lecturer in Seabed Mapping and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in the Department of Geography and the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences (BEES), UCC. He has developed and currently teaches to Master students a course on seabed mapping incorporating ship-based training onboard RV Celtic Voyager (Irish National Research Vessel).
Recent activities include mapping offshore bedrock geology of Co. Cork based on INFOMAR data, advising local government on monitoring coastal erosion, producing GIS systems for Ireland and wider Atlantic region to assist with development of decision support systems for government agencies and to support research projects in the area of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).
