This research project is being undertaken for the Irish Coast Guard of the Department of Transport. The aim of the project is to develop a Decision Support Environmental Tool in the form of a web enabled Geographical Information System (webGIS) that will be used by the Coast Guard for their Search and Rescue operations and Marine Pollution response. This system will integrate a lot of geo-referenced layers on environment, human activities in marine and coastal areas as well as relevant infrastructure. This project is being kindly supported by the Ordnance Survey Ireland, Met Éireann, Geological Survey of Ireland, The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, An Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), National Parks and Wildlife Service and a number of other organisations through providing access to the most valuable data.
