Abstract

The main goal of this fellowship is to progress implementation of the climate observations action plan in response to national and international needs and to collate existing and carry out further analysis of the essential climate variables (ECVs) for the atmospheric, oceanic and terrestrial domains. To achieve this goal the following objectives are foreseen:

- Document and report on the status of Ireland’s climate via analysis of the ECVs using available in-situ and satellite data.

- Carry out annual reviews of implementation of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) implementation plan and the national climate observation action plan and assist relevant agencies where possible

- Determine the feasibility of developing an online climate data portal via which access to the metadata and data products from the various relevant data collection and supply organisations in the climate observations area can be enhanced.
