Abstract

The main aim of this research was to provide key information relevant to long-term scallop fishery development and management priorities. This was achieved through generating deeper understanding of current stock levels as well as the physical and environmental processes that determine the distribution of, and recruitment to, the major Irish scallop populations that lie off the south and east coasts.

A multidisciplinary team had been assembled to collaboratively address these objectives. This team integrated the capture and management expertise of scallop fishery practitioners with specialist scientific expertise in the areas of scallop biology, oceanographic/hydrodynamic numerical modeling, marine geology and hydrography/GIS.
